Seerenbach Falls & Rinquelle – the Waterfalls at Lake Walensee
From the viewing platform at the Seerenbach Falls, you are awestruck by the thundering waterfalls. Looking down the vertical rock face, you see the waterfalls cascading down into the valley. They are only topped by the white foaming Rinquelle (Rin Spring) right next to them.
Beschreibung
A short hiking trail from Betlis leads to the gigantic Seerenbach Falls. At a height of 600 meters, they are among the largest waterfalls in Europe. The waterfalls can be noticed from afar, as they thunder over the vertical rock face in three stages.
The Waterfall: a Gigantic Natural Spectacle
A view of all three stages of the waterfall can be seen from the chapel in Betlis. The second of the three cascades (305 meters) is among the highest free-falling waterfalls in the world.
Refreshing Destination for Your Hike
Coming from Weesen or Quinten, the Seerenbach Falls with the Rinquelle are a special highlight of any hiking tour. From the picturesque village of Betlis, it's a short walk to the viewing platform at the foot of the third cascade. Here you can watch the thundering waterfalls from up close. In warm weather, they provide a cool refreshment. In spring after the snow has melted or after heavy rainfall, the Seerenbach Falls are particularly impressive due to the large volumes of water.
Mystery of the Rinquelle (Rin Spring)
Where the Seerenbach Falls cascade down into the valley, they join up with the Rinquelle, one of the largest karst springs in Europe. At the beginning of the 20th century, researchers began to study the Rinquelle and the cave system. Around three kilometers from the cave entrance there is a fork. From here, the water disappears inside the mountain. Where does it go? This will probably remain a mystery.
