Chapfenberg Viewpoint
Welcome to the "Top of Weesen"! A short and varied circular tour from Weesen takes you to the Chapfenberg viewpoint – offering you unique views down over the houses to the deep blue Lake Walensee.
A Worthwhile Destination for the Whole Family
Starting from Weesen, this hiking trail takes you on easy terrain to the Chapfenberg. It is easily and quickly accessible for children and the untrained thanks to its easy terrain. Once you reach your destination, the view opens up over the Fli district to the deep blue waters of Lake Walensee. The view over the little houses below the mountain, the lake and the Alpine world is magnificent.
An Important Viewpoint also in the Past
The Chapfenberg viewpoint got its name from the castle "Chapfenberg" (also known as Kapfenberg Castle in other sources), which was located here in the late Middle Ages. Presumably servants of the Kyburgs resided in the castle. Having an overview of the region was of great value even then. Today, the place attracts many hikers to enjoy the impressive view of Lake Walensee and the Glarus Alps.
Take a Break
At the Chapfenberg viewpoint, there is a rest area with a fireplace and seating - an ideal place to take a break. Further east, another path leads to a second, smaller viewpoint with another impressive view of the beautiful little town of Weesen and Lake Walensee.
