The Bannwald circular trail offers wonderful views of Lake Walensee and the Glarus Alps. Even in the forest, you can always catch a glimpse of the surrounding mountains. A scenic delight all year round!
Entertaining Hike with Playground by the Stream
The circular walk of approx. 2 hours starts at the bus stop in the village center of Amden, at the Unterbach parking lot on the opposite side of the road.
Initially, the paved hiking trail leads steadily uphill along Durschlegistrasse. At Rombach, the path takes a bend, you cross the bridge and continue along the road. The Rombach children's playground, beautifully designed with wood, is located by the stream and offers numerous play opportunities for children of all ages.
Through the Forest to the Viewpoint
The actual circular route begins at the next junction (Roma 959m). Here you continue straight ahead in the direction of Durschlegi, alternatively the circular trail leads in the opposite direction towards Romastrasse. The following signpost leads straight ahead over a stream with a bridge. The path becomes shadier from the forest section onwards. At the signpost (Mittenwald 1077m), turn sharp right towards Stollen.
Just 10 minutes from the turn-off is the beautiful Durschlegi viewpoint. The short detour to the viewing platform is worthwhile, as the deep blue Walensee lies at your feet for its entire length. After a well-earned break, the hiking trail leads uphill on a wide forest path through the Bannwald forest. Further up, the path takes a right turn. You continue on a flat section of the trail before descending on a narrow forest path at the next junction.
Walk Back Downhill to Amden
Finally, you emerge from the forest onto the meadow back to the Rombach. At the junction (Stolle 1154m), you take a leisurely stroll downhill towards Amden. Via a meadow path, which is partly paved, you return to the junction (Roma 959m). Now you hike back to the starting point on the last known section.
