The nativity scene in the Gallus church in Amden opens on December 24 at 2:00 pm and is open daily from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm until the end of January.
Huge Nativity Scene in Beautifully Decorated Church
A lot of love and passion goes into the set up of the impressive nativity scene inside the Gallus Church. What makes the nativity scene so special are the unique figures hand-crafted by the South Tyrolean carvers from Ortisei. The figures consist of Swiss stone pine wood and are made with great attention to detail and set in real gold. The works of arts are about 90 cm tall and unite the Holy Family together with the Three Wise Men, the angels, a shepherdess with a boy as well as an ox, donkey, sheep, goats and a kid.
A Feeling as if you are in the Mountains
The backdrop for the detailed carved nativity figures is a natural landscape of fir, pine and spruce trees with moss-covered trunks and bushes. Many helpers are out and about in the mountains all year round to collect the material for the unique nativity scene. The huge mountain backdrop stretches along the entire width of the church, giving you the feeling that you are in the middle of the Alps.
