This hike starts in the beautiful Arvenbüel district above Amden and Lake Walensee, at about 1300 meters above sea level. Northeastern of the Rietstrasse the route leads towards the direction of "Brittertannen". Here, you find a cozy fireplace with firewood and benches that invite you to linger.
Further downhill, the trail leads to the idyllic river Beerenbach – a paradise for children to play in and around the water. The natural mountain stream also offers beautiful bathing spots.
After the refreshing break, you move on the path in the direction of "Altschen". Always following the course of the stream, the path gradually goes up until branching off to the left to "Altschen". The alpine inn is open to the public on weekends during the summer months. The playground with a trampoline is an absolute hit for children.
Down through the moorland
Now the ascent continues along the trail to "Vorder Höhi". At the top you follow the Toggenburger Höhenweg in the direction of "Flügenspitz Süd". You will recognize you are walking through moorland: The path is wet in some places, but mostly well paved. Further upwards, you will pass by the "Saum". After this, you can take a short break with an excellent mountain view to Toggenburg and the Alpstein area with the Säntis.
Optional: Up to the summit
Further along the trail, the Flügenspitz summit (1701m) appears clearly visible in front of you. The summit is easier reachable compared to the Leistchamm (2100m) behind it. On well-maintained trails you reach until the height of 1660 meters, when you see the sign "Flügenspitz 5min". Once at the top, you can enjoy a magnificent panorama. The Glarus Alps seem close enough to touch and you will have a view over the whole Linth region.
The last part of the trail leads directly back to the starting point Arvenbüel. From "Looch" you will reach there in about 45 minutes.
