The Vision Weesen - Riviera am Walensee Commission is committed to promoting a vibrant local community and, through its “Weesen bewegt” initiative, organizes events and projects throughout the year for and, above all, together with the residents of the small town on Lake Walen.
The response has been overwhelming: “People's willingness to get involved and take responsibility for a part of our shared environment shows the strong sense of community in Weesen,” says Bettina Huber, a member of the commission. The Brunch-Tavolata and the flower box project are examples of the initiatives that make Weesen such a livable and lovable community.

Weesen is blossoming – in the truest sense of the word! The charming little town is embellished with lovingly designed flower boxes. Every spring, the boxes are brought back from their winter storage location to the town and planted together. The boxes, strategically placed at various locations in the town, not only contribute to the aesthetic enhancement of the village center, but also provide a habitat for insects and promote biodiversity.
To ensure that the flower boxes are cared for throughout the four seasons, the commission has set up a sponsorship program. Local residents, families, businesses, and associations can become sponsors and thus become godparents. This sponsorship involves regularly caring for the plants, especially in the summer months when water and attention are particularly needed. The municipality of Weesen also sponsors a box as a godparent.

The Brunch Tavolata takes place every August – an event created to celebrate the flower boxes, which were built and planted by many volunteers, at the height of their blooming splendor. The idyllic market square is transformed into a place of culinary diversity and convivial encounters.
“We want to create a space where people can meet, exchange ideas, and enjoy food and drinks together,” explains Bettina Huber, a member of the Vision Weesen – Riviera am Walensee commission, who organizes the event with passion. But the Brunch-Tavolata is more than just a feast for the palate, it's also an expression of a vibrant community. Organized by the commission in close cooperation with the political municipality of Weesen and Amden Weesen Tourism.

The flowers in the market square are taking on their autumn colors and the plants are going into hibernation before the first frost. It's the right time to prepare the flower boxes for winter. Together with the municipality of Weesen, which also acts as a sponsor, the flower boxes are prepared for winter on a Saturday in October. The wildflowers are cut back, the boxes are filled with soil, various flower bulbs are planted for spring, and the boxes are covered with pine branches.

In keeping up with the pre-Christmas festivities the flower boxes are quickly transformed into Advent boxes. They are distributed to plow-safe locations in the town center and throughout the Weesen area. Each box has a number from the Advent calender. The sponsors decorate their boxes themselves and can invite guests to a small Advent aperitif at 7 p.m. on their respective dates.

The work done in autumn pays off as soon as the days get longer again and spring knocks on the door. The first bulbs begin to bloom, delighting the residents of Weesen.
