The hiking trail starts at the lake in Weesen directly opposite the Parkhotel Schwert and the Trattoria Walensee restaurant. There are parking spaces available here, and the bus from Ziegelbrücke and Amden arrives at the bus stop "Weesen, See".
Out into Nature
From the village of Weesen, you walk up to the holiday apartment "Mariahalden". Here a signpost points to the right. Passing between this mighty overbuilding, you take some steps uphill into a wonderful natural setting:
Away from the hustle and bustle of the lake area, you can experience Weesen from a different perspective. You walk passed an ancient farmhouse into the forest. The path climbs steadily until you reach "Hundsiten". Here you leave the path and the view sweeps uphill to a farm. A short time later, the trail continues along the forest on the right-hand side, quickly entering the forest again in the direction of Chapfenberg. The path is perfectly flat and you reach your destination in less than 10 minutes.
A View Like in a Picture Book
At the Chapfenberg viewpoint, the view opens up over the Fli-Quartier to the fjord-like Lake Walensee. How magnificent the view over the little houses below the mountain, the lake and the mountains! There is also a rest area with a fireplace and seating - the perfect opportunity for a well-earned break. Further east, another path leads to a second vantage point with a view over the deep blue Lake Walensee.
Then and Now
The Chapfenberg viewpoint was the site of Chapfenberg Castle (also known as Kapfenberg Castle in other sources) in the High to Late Middle Ages. Servants of the Kyburgs probably resided here. At that time, an overview of the region was of great value. And today you can still enjoy the view from up here before descending to Kapfenbergstrasse. The hiking trail is well marked and leads you directly back to the starting point at the bus stop "Weesen, See".
