Beschreibung
Amden's most popular hike is always enchanting. In early summer, flowers sprout at the edge of the path, and late summer and autumn immerse the high moor into warm colors.
Through Beautiful Moor Area of National Importance
The Amden mountain trail (in Swiss German: Amdener Höhenweg or Ammler Höhenweg) encounters marshy natural landscape of national importance overgrown with leghorns. Only survival artists thrive on this wet, acidic and barren soil, such as the insect-eating sundew, the cotton grass or the inconspicuous sedge. In the somewhat drier peripheral area, the so-called heath, blueberries and alpine roses prevailed.
Magnificent Views of the Glarus Alps
The pre-alpine landscape is also characterized by spruce and mountain pine forests. Every now and then, the view clears up for a great mountain panorama. From Toggenburg over the Alpstein mountains to the Glarus Alps - the view into the distance is breathtaking! Idyllic fireplaces and several mountain restaurants invite you to have a break and enjoy the scenery.
Wegbeschreibung
Start in Amden
From Arvenbüel, the Amden mountain trail leads along a steep road to the water reservoir. Through a small forest the gravel path makes a gentle climb towards Altschen. On weekends, the Altschen alpine inn is an ideal place for a stopover.
Continue in the direction of Vorder Höhi and at the fork Schwisolen turn left along Gulmen. Now you find yourself walking across alpine pastures and forests to the mountain restaurant Hüttlisboden. The view of the Glarus Alps is magnificent!
Alpine Farming and Natural Beauties
Via Furgglen-Stöcklersiten – past the moutain restaurant Furgglen – the trail leads you through protected high moorland to Hinter Höhi. This path leads through a game and nature reserve. Dogs must therefore be kept on a leash.
At the alp Strichboden you find a great opportunity for a break. Those who like to hike further from here can take the approx. one-hour path that leads across lush pastures and authentic farms. Alternatively, you can take the nearby Mattstock chairlift back to the village of Amden.
